Sun Tzu was a Chinese general who lived around the 5th century BC. The collection of essays on the art of war attributed to Sun Tzu is the oldest treaty known on the subject. Despite its age, Sun Tzu's advice continues to keep validity.
The art of war is the best strategy book of all time. He inspired Napoleon, Machiavelli, Mao Tse Tung and many more historical figures. This book of two thousand five hundred years old, is one of the most important Chinese classic texts, in which, despite the time elapsed, none of its maxims has been outdated, nor is there a single advice that today is not useful. But General Sun Tzu's work is not only a military practice book, but a treaty that teaches the supreme strategy of wising the knowledge of human nature at times of confrontation. It is not, therefore, a book about war; It is a work to understand the roots of a conflict and look for a solution. "The best victory is to overcome without fighting," Sun Tzu tells us, "and that is the distinction between the prudent and the ignorant man."
Sun Tzu's work first arrived in Europe in the previous period to the French Revolution, in the form of a brief translation by the Jesuit priest Jjm Amiot. In the various translations that have been made since then, the author as Sun Wu or Sun Tzi is occasionally appointed

Sun Tzu's ideas spread throughout the rest of Asia until they reached Japan. The Japanese quickly adopted these teachings and possibly added some of their own harvest. There is a record that the main Japanese book on the subject, "The Book of Five Rings" is influenced by Sun Tzu's philosophy, since its author, Miyamoto Mushashi, studied the treaty of "The Art of War" during his formation as Samurai.
Reference is usually made to oriental cultures as strategy cultures and Sun Tzu's influence is not small on this cultural development. Today, the philosophy of war art has gone beyond strictly military limits, applying to business, sports, diplomacy and even personal behavior. For example, many key phrases of modern business management manuals are practically literal quotes of the work of Sun Tzu (changing, for example, an army for company, or armament for resources, without going any further). The ideas are still completely valid despite the 25 centuries that have passed since they were written.
